FOODWORKS Launches New Market Cafes in Austin and Houston, With More Texas Expansion To Come

Chicago-based company offers dining solutions to fit varying needs of both corporate and historic buildings

After successful openings in Chicago, New York and more, FOODWORKS has begun its expansion throughout the state of Texas by opening its new ‘Market Cafe Powered By FOODWORKS’ concept in both Austin and Houston in October. The Chicago-based company offers dining solutions to fit varying needs at everything from corporate workplaces to historic landmarks..

The Market Cafe Powered By FOODWORKS is a cost-effective and contact-less dining option that allows delicious dining options without the operational costs of a full-service cafe. These grab-and-go markets are completely contactless where guests can scan and pay for their items and leave. Guests also have the option of using the MarketConnect App to preorder and pick up items at a designated shelf, avoiding unnecessary contact and maintaining social distancing.

In October, FOODWORKS opened two new Market Cafes in Texas: at Marathon Oil’s corporate office in Houston and as part of the Texas Historical Commission’s renovation of the French Legation in Austin. While two vastly different sites–the first, a workplace with over 700 employees, and the second, a historic building that receives thousands of tourists and local visitors each year—FOODWORKS’ model offers a customizable solution to both.

FOODWORKS partners with local restaurants in each city, helping restaurateurs who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic get back on their feet through a new revenue stream. One of the many success stories of local restaurants featured in a Market Cafe is Dickies BBQ, a restaurant founded in Houston that after its vast success has franchised in Texas and Arizona. Dickies BBQ started out as a mom and pop barbeque restaurant that has been passed down through generations. Now the grandson of the original owner has been very successful through partnering with FOODWORKS and featuring Dickies BBQ in various Market Cafes.

During FOODWORKS’ Texas expansion, the company plans to introduce the Market Cafes to offices and sites all throughout cities in Texas. With this proven cafe concept, FOODWORKS is expecting this to be only the beginning of their company’s success.
